Unlike the tax-revenue incomes, the government's non-tax revenue saw a steep rise until May of the last fiscal year (FY) 2024-25, according to official data.
The volume of non-tax revenue, collected during the July-May period of the last fiscal year, was Tk 530.45 billion, reflecting a 43 per cent growth over that in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, it was learnt.
However, the figure was about 32.387 per cent higher than the non-tax revenue collection of the entire fiscal year 2023-24, data from the Ministry of Finance showed.
In the entire FY '2024, the government collected non-tax revenue amounting to Tk 400.68 billion, according to the official figures.
On the other hand, Tk 3.33 trillion worth of tax-revenue was collected during the first 11 months of the last FY2025, which was much lower than the yearly target of Tk 4.95 trillion, official data revealed.
According to the MoF data, the government's collections of non-tax revenue almost doubled thanks to the dividend and profit and also interest amounts, paid by the companies, government agencies and others.
From the dividend and profit segment, it was able to earn Tk 246.43 billion, almost double the amount of the previous fiscal year.
The government's earnings from the same sub-sector were Tk 124.39 billion in the previous fiscal (FY2024).
The collections in dividend and profit during the July-May period of FY2025 were also much higher than the target of Tk 168.53 billion, the MoF data showed.
However, the revenue income from receipts for rendering services, administrative fees, 'non-commercial sales'; and 'fine, penalties and forfeiture' declined to some extent during the months under review.
The government got Tk 46.47 billion in revenue from the "Receipts for Services Rendered" in July-May period of last fiscal year against Tk 59.30 billion collected during the same period of FY2024.
On account of administrative fees and charges, the government earned Tk 23.83 billion in July-May of FY2025 compared to Tk 25.83 billion in the FY2024.
The government also collected Tk19.99 billion from non-commercial sales in the above mentioned period of FY2025 while the amount was Tk 22.57 billion in the previous FY2024, the official statistics showed.
From the fine, penalties and forfeiture segment, the government's earnings were Tk 9.65 billion in the 11-month period of FY'25 compared to Tk 15.12 billion in the matching period of FY2024, the MoF data showed.
According to the MoF officials, the higher trend in the income from the non-tax revenue in the last FY2025 was certainly 'good news'.
Although the tax-revenue had been affected in the last fiscal year, the strong growth in non-tax revenue income helped the government finance the country's development works to some extent, they added.
