HC stays BAIRA election schedule

The High Court has stayed the election schedule of the Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (BAIRA), an association of manpower exporters.
The bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf passed the order on Tuesday (November 5) after hearing a writ petition filed by Khandaker Abu Ashfaq, a member of the association.
Siddique Ullah Miah, lawyer for the petitioner, told The Financial Express the polls schedule had been stayed.
BAIRA is regulated and governed by the Trade Organisation Rules 1994 under the Ministry of Commerce.
According to Section 14 of the rules, every trade organisation shall constitute an election board consisting of three members and an election appeal board consisting of three members at least 90 days prior to the election of the next executive committee. The present BAIRA executive committee announced the election schedule violating this section.
