All political parties of the country have been urged to give top priority to the country's economic development and refrain from all sorts of destructive activities.

The International Business Forum of Bangladesh (IBFB) made the appeal in a statement issued in the city on Tuesday.

Expressing deep concern over the recent programmes of the political parties, the IBFB stated that it apprehends political instability like last year in the country which may hit the overall economic growth of the country.

"We should remember that the existing political problem can never ever be solved through programmes like hartal (shutdown), which is a danger signal for the country's economic development," the IBFB mentioned.

It said political stability and mutual respect, trust and empathy among the political parties are essential, pre-requisites for the economy of the country to flourish.

In spite of frequent natural calamities, global economic recession and political unrest, the country achieved notable progress in socioeconomic arena last year thanks to the untiring efforts of the business community, it added.

"All these achievements will be ruined if the country plunged into political instability again. For these reason, the IBFB is requesting all the political parties to give the country's economic development top priority and refrain from all sorts of destructive activities," it appealed.
