ICMAB confce on Fourth Industrial Revolution

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB) Chattogram Branch Council (CBC) organised a day-long conference on 'The Fourth Industrial Revolution: The Challenges and Opportunities for Bangladesh' at a hotel in the port city on Friday

The Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB), Chattogram Branch Council (CBC) organised a day-long conference on 'The Fourth Industrial Revolution: The Challenges and Opportunities for Bangladesh' at a hotel in the port city on Friday, says a statement.

Md Kamrul Hasan, divisional commissioner of Chattogram, attended the conference as the chief guest and Ahmed Jamal, deputy governor of Bangladesh Bank, A K M Delwer Hussain, President of South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA), M A Malek, Editor of Dainik Azadi, and Abu Bakar Siddique, president of ICMAB, as special guests.

Arif Khan, past president of ICMAB, presented the theme of the conference. Chattogram Branch Council Chairman Mohammad Arif presided over the conference while conference committee chairman M Monoarul Hoque delivered the welcome address.

Kamrul Hasan said Bangladesh has already entered the era of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), but majority of its success depends on the professional accountants along with other sector professionals.

As Bangladesh has graduated from the LDC and on the way to join the class of middle-income countries by 2024, it is high time to concentrate on the Fourth Industrial Revolution, he added.

A paper on 'The Fourth Industrial Revolution: Turning Challenges into Opportunities' was presented by Prof Dr Selim Raihan, Executive Director of South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM).

Imtiaz Alam, the chairman of Infinity Group, conducted the session. Md Kausar Alam, Group CFO of Seven Circle BD Ltd and Md Mamunur Rashid, DMD of Index Group of Companies, were the discussants at the session.

Another paper on 'The Fourth Industrial Revolution: Readiness for Financial Sector' was presented by Bidyut Kumar Saha, Senior Investment Officer, Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The session was conducted by A H M Shafiquzzaman, additional secretary, ministry of commerce. Prof Dr Md Salim Uddin, department of accounting, University of Chittagong and chairman of BHBFC, and Dr Sayed Abdulla Al Mamun, CEO, BDRAL (Dan and Bradstreet), were the discussants at the session.
