Imported rice from Myanmar arrives at Ctg port


CHATTOGRAM, Jan 17: A ship from Myanmar carrying 22,000 tonnes of sun-dried rice has berthed at the jetty of the Chittagong port, the prime sea port of the country.
Sources said, MV Golden Star berthed at Jetty No. 9 of Chittagong sea port around 12:30 PM on Friday as part of the first phase of a rice import scheme by the interim government. The ship came to Chittagong port from Yangon in Myanmar. This is the first consignment of rice imported from Myanmar during the regime of the interim government.
Gnanpriya Bidurshi Chakma, Traffic and Conservation Controller of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), said the ship MV Golden Star started the unloading of rice in the evening.. As part of the G2G programme of importing 100,000 sun-dried rice from Myanmar, the consignment of 22,000 tonnes arrived in the first phase. The rest will arrive later."
"Besides another ship from Myanmar will arrive at the Chittagong sea port soon. 'MV Golden Star' has already reached Chittagong sea port with 22,000 toones of rice while another ship will have 2,500 tonnes. A total of 105000 tonnes of rice are being imported from Myanmar," he added.
MV SDR Universe' berthed at the Chittagong sea port on January 12 last with 26,935 tonnes of rice imported from India. It is the second ship that came to the Chittagong sea port with imported rice from India during the tenure of the interim government. Earlier, MV Tanais Dream, the first ship loaded with first consignment of 24,690 tonnes of parboiled rice imported from India berthed at the Jetty No. 11 of Chittagong port on December 26 last.
