Improve rural infrastructure


Leaders of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) have called for developing infrastructure in rural areas in order to give an impetus to the national economy.
The call came at a meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee relating to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives held at the apex trade body's headquarters in the city on Tuesday.
The business leaders also called for arranging training programmes on entrepreneurship and providing credit facilities for the youths to create more employment opportunities in rural areas, said a press statement.
Chairman of the Standing Committee Abdul Hakim Sumon presided over the meeting, while Director In-Charge of the committee Gazi Golam Ashria presented a detailed roadmap of the committee.
Acting FBCCI President Md Muntakim Ashraf and Directors Md Abu Naser and Hafez Harun-or-Roshid also spoke.
Terming the country a village-oriented region, the speakers said it is essential to develop infrastructure in rural areas to speed up the national economic growth.
They laid emphasis on taking measures to help growers get fair price of fruits and vegetables in different seasons, when there are surplus produce.
They also underscored the need for establishing preservation facilities and creating opportunities to export the surplus produce.
