Prices of most vegetables declined significantly on Friday, thanks to the increased arrival of winter crops in the market, traders said.
Imported Indian variety of onion increased while most of other commodity prices showed static trend on the day, traders said.
Prices of winter crops like cauliflower, cabbage, local bean, long bean, tomato, radish, vegetable leaf like spinach, red amaranth, green amaranth, mustard plant, radish plant decreased by Tk5-20 at per kg or per piece or per bunch.
Prices of green papaya, pointed gourd, sponge gourd, bottle gourd, bitter gourd (ustha), ladies finger, green banana (kachkola) and green chilli also decreased by Tk2-20 per kg or per piece in a week.
Coriander leaf price went down almost by 50 per cent and sold at Tk 200-220 per kg on the day, according to key kitchen markets in the city.
Cauliflower and cabbage sold at Tk20-25 (medium sized) and Tk30-35 (big) per piece, local bean at Tk40-60 per kg, long bean at Tk60--70, tomato at Tk60--80, radish at Tk20-22 per kg on the day.
Spinach (palang shak), mustard leaf sold at Tk6--20 per bunch on the day.
Amarnath Saha, a vegetable trader at Rayer Bazar, said farmers in many districts started collecting crops from their vegetable fields, which is helping to cut prices.
He said many of the traders in village areas stocked a huge quantity of vegetables on Wednesday and Thursday due to the Hartal, which entered the city on Friday early morning.
Vice President of Nowabganjbazar Kancha Bazar Baboshayee Samity, an association of vegetable traders, Ismail Hossain said prices of winter vegetable will reduce gradually from now on.
"Normalisation of transport is needed to keep the prices within the limit of fixed income people," he said.
Prices of imported onion increased by Tk2-3 per kg in a week and the variety sold at Tk34-38 per kg based on qualities on the day.
Local onion was sold at Tk36-38 per kg---almost static compared to that of its previous, traders said.
