Inform traders before kitchen market drives

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) urged the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) on Thursday to inform the traders before carrying out drives in kitchen markets.
"We call upon the DNCRP to inform us (traders) before carrying out drives in the kitchen markets," said FBCCI Senior Vice-President Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu.
He was exchanging views on market prices, stock and supply of essential commodities with the traders in Karwan Bazar kitchen market and Dhaka New Market in the capital.
FBCCI vice-presidents Md Amin Helaly and Md Habib Ullah Dawn, President of Karwan Bazar Kitchen Market Owners Association Md Babul Mia, and President of Dhaka New Super Market North D Block Shop Owners Association Md Habib Ullah Pathan, were present, among others.
The FBCCI leader made the call amid the traders' complaints regarding their unnecessary harassment during drives by a section of the DNCRP officials that sometimes led to unpleasant situations.
During the meetings the traders informed the FBCCI leaders that a section of the DNCRP officials show over enthusiasm while conducting market monitoring drives that sometimes create mistrust and unpleasant situation between the traders and the government officials.
Mr Chowdhury also urged the traders not to make excessive profits considering the consumers' interest.
He called upon the kitchen markets representatives to find out the traders, who are involved in unethical practices for making exorbitant profit.
They assured the FBCCI leaders that they would not allow traders in their respective kitchen markets to hoard goods and make excessive profit.
