Int\\\'l Investors Forum ’14 in city on Sept 17

Preparations are underway to hold a high profile investment forum in Dhaka on September 17 where investors and representatives of major global corporate houses from 25 countries have so far got registered to take part.

The forum dubbed as 'Bangladesh International Investors Forum-2014' will

showcase Bangladesh's achievements in various sectors as an emerging economy and highlight the prospects of new investments to participants coming to take part in the event, a BoI (Board of Investment) official said.

He told the FE Sunday that in the very inaugural session of the day-long conference to be opened by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, chief executive officer (CEO) of France-based Lafarge-Surma Cement will make a presentation in her presence on the company's growing business in Bangladesh.

Executive Chairman Dr SA Samad and Country Director of International Finance Corporation Kyal Kelhofer will be present, among others.

The forum will have four business sessions. Special Adviser to Cabinet Office of the Prime Minister of Japan George Hara will speak in the concluding session on 'Investing in Bangladesh: Public Interest Capitalism' in presence of senior ministers of Bangladesh government and other policymakers.    

The BoI official said the investment forum in Dhaka will take place immediately after "Bangladesh Investment Summit-2014" in Singapore on September 4. It will be organised under private sector initiative while the BoI is going to organise the investment forum in the capital with support from other government agencies.  

But both the events have the same purpose of highlighting the country's investment potential and sharing information on various sectors of the economy including manufacturing, banking, finance, asset management and such other issues.

The day's four business sessions will include discussions on investment climate in Bangladesh; agri-business, light engineering, BEZA (Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority) activities to develop new industrial infrastructure, investment opportunity in power sector, public-private partnership opportunity in Bangladesh and such other issues.  Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Foreign Affairs Minister AH Mahmood Ali, Adviser to Prime Minister Dr Gawher Rizvi and private sector representative Salahuddin Kasem Khan will speak in the concluding session, the BoI source said.
