Int\\\'l tourism fair begins Thursday

A three-day international tourism fair will begin Thursday at Sonargaon Hotel in the city to promote domestic spots to local and international tourists, officials said.
Rashed Khan Menon, minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism will formally inaugurate the Dhaka Travel Mart 2015, the 12th edition.
Bangladesh Monitor, a travel publication, will organise the fair, where 60 local and international airlines, tour operators and hotels will display and promote their products and services.
The announcement came Monday at a press conference held at a city hotel.
"This is a milestone event for us", said Kazi Wahidul Alam, who edits the publication. He said "We believe the travel mart has been able to play some role in the development of country's tourism sector".
Mr Alam said they have observed 'significant' development in the tourism sector in, with people taking more interest in the tourism than before.
He said investors have invested in new hotels, restaurants and resorts to meet the growing demand, while the number of service providers has also increased.
He said the travel fair is an opportunity to bring together travel-related service providers from home and abroad, to showcase and market their products and services under one roof.
He said the event will be helpful in establishing direct contacts between businesses and consumers, facilitating free flow of information.
The fair will remain open from 10am to 8pm with an entry fee of Tk 25.
