Int'l trade fair begins in Ctg on Thursday

CHATTOGRAM, Feb 12: A month-long Chattogram International Trade Fair (CITF) 2024 begins at Railway Polo Ground in the port city on Thursday (February 15).

State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu will inaugurate the 31st CITF which will remain open to visitors from 10:00am to 10:00pm every day.

Education Minister Barrister Muhibul Hasan Chowdhury will attend the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest.

Former president of the Chattogram Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) MA Latif and FBCCI president Mahbubul Alam will participate in the function as special guest and guest of honour respectively.

The inaugural ceremony will be held on the CITF premises at the polo ground at 4:00pm.

The CCCI is organising the trade fair and has taken all-out preparations to make it a success.

Addressing a press conference at the CCCI hall in the city on Monday, CCCI president Omar Hazaz said, "The businessmen of Chattogram as well as other parts of the country will get a chance to exhibit their products to the international business community through the CITF."

"However, all preparations to hold the CITF have already been completed."

The CCCI president said a large number of police force would be patrolling the fair premises. A temporary police camp has been set up there. Visitors would be examined with metal detectors at the entry points.

In his address, Mr Hazaz stressed the need for transit facilities for the countries like India, China and Myanmar.

He has urged the government to fix up a permanent venue for the CITF.

CITF chairman AKM Akter Hossain told the conference that after the corona outbreaks, the CCCI has arranged the CITF this year.

CCCI sources said a total of four foreign countries -- India, Thailand, China and Iran -- are taking part in the fair.

Different foreign countries and their leading companies will participate in the fair.

Besides, local leading companies will take part in the trade fair with 16 premier pavilions, 56 premier stalls, 94 gold stalls, 48 mega stalls, 11 food corners, 03 separate zones and 400 general stalls. A total of 310 companies are participating in the fair.
