DUBLIN, Aug 1 (Xinhua): The Central Bank of Ireland on Friday issued a warning about an unauthorised retail credit firm offering credit facilities to Irish consumers.
In a statement, the Irish central bank said that Day-Long Loans and Financial Investment (Ireland) is not authorised as a retail credit firm by the central bank and had advertised the availability of credit in an Irish newspaper.
It said a list of unauthorised firms/persons published to date is available on the central bank's website.
"It is a criminal offence for an unauthorised firm/person to provide financial services in Ireland that would require an authorisation under the relevant legislation for which the central bank is the responsible body for enforcing," said the central bank.
It said consumers should be wary of advertisements offering loans from unauthorised/anonymous firms or persons, adding that consumers can check the central bank register online to find out if a firm they are dealing with is authorised.
Since August 1998, the names of 242 unauthorised firms/persons have been published by the central bank.
