ROME, July 5 (Xinhua): Italy's deficit-to-gross domestic product (GDP) ratio fell 0.7 per cent to 6.6 per cent in the first three months of 2014 over the same period in 2013, national statistics institute Istat said on Friday.
Istat added the figure was not taking into account credit-swap operations.
In March, Italy received a warning from the European Central Bank (ECB) over the lack of results in reducing its budget deficit, which is not allowed for member states of the European Union (EU) to surpass 3 per cent.
Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, who earlier this week kicked off Italy's six-month presidency of the EU, has assured that his government would respect all commitments.
