Jamuna Bridge collects Tk 29.4m toll in 24 hrs amid election rush

TANGAIL, Feb 11 (BSS): The Jamuna Bridge authority collected Taka 2,94,71,650 in toll from 36,923 vehicles that crossed the bridge in the 24 hours from Monday midnight to Tuesday midnight, amid increased traffic ahead of the 13th national elections.
According to officials, the surge in traffic is driven by people from at least 23 districts in North Bengal and surrounding areas returning home during the four-day voting holiday.
Of the total vehicles, 23,989 traveled toward North Bengal, generating Taka 1,74,94,900 in toll revenue. Meanwhile, 12,934 vehicles crossed toward Dhaka, contributing Taka 1,19,76,750.
Jamuna Bridge Site Office Executive Engineer Syed Riaz Uddin confirmed the figures on Wednesday afternoon.
He said vehicular pressure on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway began increasing from Tuesday night due to the extended holiday.
