Japanese university students, who completed internship in various industries and organisations in Bangladesh, have identified the country as one of the most potential destinations for foreign investors.
"Despite few challenges, the country can be considered one of the most lucrative destinations for foreign investors," Mami Ideue, an intern student, made the comment while sharing her experience at a city hotel Tuesday.
Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) in association with the Japan Study Centre of the Dhaka University arranged the exchange of views programme to celebrate the completion of three to six month-long internship programme.
JETRO representative Kei Kawano, Bangladesh AOTS-HIDA Alumni Society (BAAS) president AMM Khairul Bashar, Chattagram AOTS Alumni Society (CAAS) President Kamalur Rahman, among others, addressed the event.
A team of young Japanese students completed their three to six month internship programme in Bangladesh under the Ministry of Economic, Trade and Industry of Japan.
Ms Ideue has identified five challenges including political instability, unskilled manpower, lack of energy and poor infrastructure, for foreign investors.
But she said "The opportunities like low-cost production and business friendly environment will supersede the disadvantages". She added the government should take necessary additional measures to attract foreign investment.
Mr Kawano said the objective of the programme is to help the young leaders benefit from cross-border knowledge. Besides, it will help promote network and cooperative relationship in the business.
Other interns are: Kenichi Yanada, Yushi Ishil, Masami Shida, Shinnosuke Ito and Shogo Saito.
