Mitsubishi Gr, JETRO delegates meet CCCI leaders

Japanese investments sought

A views-exchange meeting between leaders of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and a Japanese delegation from Mitsubishi Group and JETRO was held at CCCI's World Trade Centre office on Tuesday

CHATTOGRAM, Sept 21: Businesses in the port city have urged Japanese organisations and entrepreneurs to invest in Bangladesh's different sectors including ICT, food processing, automobiles, technology and knowledge transfer.

The call came during a views-exchange meeting between leaders of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) and a Japanese delegation from Mitsubishi Group and JETRO at CCCI's World Trade Centre office on Tuesday afternoon.

The programme was chaired by CCCI Vice President Syed M Tanvir.

The Japanese side was made up of Mitsubishi's Yosuke Izumi, Mariko Umehara, Kotaro Sugunuma, Ryo Nagamatsu, Kazuhiko IIzuka, Keisuke Yamada and JETRO leaders Kazunori Yamada and Ishrat Jahan from Dhaka.

A total of 30 industrialists and entrepreneurs from 18 different sectors of Chattogram attended the meeting.

Other CCCI leaders present at the meeting included Ahid Siraj Chowdhury Swapan, Anjan Shekhar Das, Nazmul Karim Chowdhury Sharun, Mohammed Adnanul Islam, Md Nasirul Alam (Fahim), former president Engineer Ali Ahmed and former senior-vice president Omar Hazzaz.

On the day, the Japanese delegates also visited Kabir Ship Recycling Limited and the CCCI's Japan Desk.

The views exchange meeting and the Japanese delegation's visit to Kabir Ship Recycling Limited were facilitated by the Bangladesh Centre of Excellence.

Terming Chattogram as an attractive destination for business and investment with its geographic position and growing infrastructural facilities, the local industrialists and entrepreneurs present at the meeting invited Japan to invest in Bangladesh, including setting up joint venture industries with Japanese companies in different sectors such as automobile, ICT, food processing, auto parts, textiles, engineering and skill development.

The Japanese delegation members showed interest to invest in Bangladesh.

Farhad, Director Jinnah Chowdhury, Managing Director (MD) of PHP Motors Akter Parvez, Director of Reliance Assets & Development Omar Muqtadir, MD of Delmas Apparels Raihan Shams, MD of Novosil Sabbir Ahmed, Director of Lub-rref Salauddin Yousuf, Director of Euro Gas Chowdhury Yeamin Amin, Director of Mostafa Group Taimur Rahman, Director of Meridian Foods Akib Kamal, Director of RTT Textile Tanvir Ahmed, Director of Hossain Traders Sheikh Mehzabir Hossain, Jonayed Ahmed Rahat from Mutual Group, Ahmed Zibran from AZ Consultants, Habibur Rahman Khan from BARVIDA, Monir Hossain from BSRM and Chattogram University's Associate Professor Arif Iftekhar were also present.
