The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts discussed Tuesday audit objections of the office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) against the store department of Bangladesh Railway, reports BSS.
Audit objections of the fiscal years from 2006-07 to 2008-2009 involving Taka 63,22,29,265 were discussed in the 2nd meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its Chairman Dr. Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir presiding.
Members of the committee of Jantiya Sangasad (JS) M Abdus Shahid, M Jillul Hakim, M Ishak Hossain Talukder, Panchanan Biswas, AFM Ruhul Haq, M Afsarul Amin, Begum Rebeka Momin, M Shamsul Haq Tuku and Begum Wasika Ayesha attended the meeting, said an official release.
The meeting recommended implementing the decisions in the CAG audit report within the stipulated time.
The meeting agreed with the observation in the audit report that the government incurred a loss of Taka 1,49,81,400 for purchasing 315 tonnes of pig iron for the railway at a rate higher than the market price.
It recommended taking punitive action against the officials and employees concerned within 30 days after investigation.
The committee also recommended resolving the audit objections about causing a big loss for the government by purchasing 230 tonnes of creosote oil and another big amount by purchasing 407 solid wheels at higher rates.
CAG Masud Ahmed, Railway Secretary M Abul Kalam Azad and senior officials concerned were present at the meeting.
