JS body unhappy with BCIC

The parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of industries (MoI) expressed disappointment Sunday over the slow implementation of the ministry's decisions by the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC).
In its fourth meeting on the day the committee also reviewed the activities of BCIC and discussed the problems the corporation face.
It urged the MoI to be prompt for implementing the decisions.
The meeting also discussed the problems the corporation is confronting and the harmful impact of formalin and other chemicals on human health. It laid emphasis on strengthening the anti-adulteration drive by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI).
With Omar Faruk Chowdhury in the chair the meeting was attended, among others, by members of the committee Md Abdur Razzaq and Fatematuzzohra and high officials of the MoI.
Meanwhile the fifth meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of social welfare discussed the progress of establishing a department for the development of the people with disabilities.
It also discussed the improvement of socio-economic life of downtrodden people including the bede, dalit and horizon communities. The government has been implementing a programme for improving the life standards of the communities.
The committee also recommended for creating 'block allocation' similar to the ministry of disaster management so that it could provide assistance to the victims during natural disasters.
The meeting also urged the ministry to increase the allocation for treatment and other purposes for the destitute people. It also suggested the deputy director of the Social Welfare Department to act as president instead of deputy commissioner (DC) and thana social welfare officer as member in executing the allocation activities.
It also recommended the ministry for financial allocation to all the members of parliament (MPs) for the people of their respective constituencies.
With Md Mozzamal Hossain in the chair the meeting was also attended, among others, by State Minister for Social Welfare Promod Mankin, Monoranjan Shil Gopal, Ayesha Ferdous, Md Habibe Millat and Abdul Matin and high officials of the ministry.
