JS body wants action against unscrupulous recruiting agencies

A parliamentary watchdog suggested Wednesday taking punitive actions against the unscrupulous recruiting agencies and middlemen if found guilty.
The actions are intended to regulate their activities while ensuring accountability.
The suggestion came at the 21st meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of expatriates' welfare and overseas employment at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) with body chairman Nurul Majid Mahmud in the chair.
The meeting was informed that legal actions such as the realisation of penalty, compensation, cancellation of licence and confiscating of deposits were taken against a total of 106 recruiting agencies from 2004 until 2017 after the allegations were proved in the investigation.
The meeting was told that Bangladesh has been sending skilled and semi-skilled workers to Jordan, Japan and Saudi Arabia at free of costs.
