JSM begins open market sale of sugar

JOYPURHAT, June 10 (BSS) :  Joypurhat Sugar Mills (JSM), a state owned enterprise, has started 'Open Market Sale' (OMS) of sugar across the country from Monday to stabilise the price of sugar during the month of Ramadan.

The JSM, one of the quality sugar producers unit of the country, has decided to sell per packed one kilogram sugar at the rate of Tk 42 throughout the country to keep the price stable in the market.

So far, more than 9,400 tonnes of sugar valued at Tk 350 million remain unsold in the mills warehouses, the mills sources said.

Abdus Salam, Managing Director of the JSM, said the decision to sell sugar on OMS was taken by the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation to reduce the stock of sugar as well as keep the price stable during the Ramadan.

He further said  a large amounts of packed sugar have been dispatched to the big cities of the country including Dhaka and Chittagong.
