A project was launched with a view to contributing to environmental protection initiatives through manufacturing jute bags and diversified jute products, says a press release.
The project -- Capacity Development for Employment through Eco-Friendly Jute Products -- was inaugurated on Saturday. It will be implemented by SPACE NGO, funded by Switzerland-based INGO 'RET International'.
The project is also aimed at empowering the young men and women and their family with employment opportunities.
The project was inaugurated by Rashedul Islam, Director-General, NGO Affairs Bureau of the Prime Minister's Office, as the chief guest. The function was also addressed by Razia Sultana, local councillor, Iqbal Karim, Country Director of RET Internation, Md. Salah Uddin Bepary, Executive Dirctor of SPACE, and Abul Kalam and Mohammad Hannan, President and Secretary of Kalyanpur CBO Committee respectively.
The speakers at the function stressed the need for integrated initiatives by all concerned for promoting environment-friendly jute goods for gradually phasing out packaging materials of synthetic materials harmful to environment.
Synthetic packaging materials like polythene destroys the earth's environment, while 100 per cent biodegradable jute shopping bags are environment-friendly, they said.
