Kaliakoir park investment to top $300m by 2021: E&Y

The government plans to pump more than $300 million into the Kaliakoir IT Park by 2021 fiscal year aiming to generate jobs for one million people.

It has also set a target to earn $5,904 million by 2020-21 fiscal year, according to the draft roadmap and hi-tech policy.

The draft roadmap was presented at a workshop on Thursday.

Bangladesh Hi-tech Park Authority organised the workshop at a city hotel to unveil the draft roadmap and hi-tech policy, prepared by Indian arm of global consultancy Ernst and Young.

Speaking at the workshop as the chief guest, State Minister for ICT Division Zunaid Ahmed Palak said the government has taken an initiative to set up IT parks in different areas of the country to attract foreign investment, generate employment, create a world-class IT-based industry and enhance capacity of local entrepreneurs.

Mr Palak said the authority has already appointed two developers for block 2, 3 and 5 and developers would be appointed soon for rest of the blocks.

Chaired by Hi-Tech Park Authority Managing Director Hosne Ara Begum, the workshop was also addressed by ICT secretary Shyam Sundar Shikdar, Kaliakoir Hi-tech Park project director ANM Shafiqul Islam and IT expert Mostafa Jabbar.
