Keel laying ceremony of Mongla Port vessel held

KHULNA, June 21 (BSS): The keel laying ceremony of a 'Search and Rescue vessel' for the Mongla Port Authority (MPA) was held on the Khulna Shipyard premises on Tuesday.
Speaking as the chief guest, MPA Chairman Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa said Khulna Shipyard Ltd. would build six vessels for the port. The Search and Rescue vessel is one of them, he added.
Designed by German organisation Technology Services (GmbH), the 'Search and Rescue vessel' will be equipped with ultra-modern technology.
Mentioning that the vessel will enhance the port's capability, the MPA chairman said 75 modern cargo and container-handling vessels have already been commissioned to the Mongla Port's fleet.
He also said the importance of the port will grow rapidly after the inauguration of the Padma Bridge and that the port will be able to meet the demand of both importers and exporters.
The capacity of parking area for imported cars at the port have already increased to 15,000, he said.
Construction work for eight development projects of the port are going on in full swing and there is no ship congestion at the port, said the MPA chairman.
Khulna Regional Naval Commander Rear Admiral Anwar Hossain addressed the function as special guest, with Managing Director of Khulna Shipyard Commodore M Shamsul Aziz in the chair.
