Labour leaders placed Monday a four-point charter of demands including immediate opening of the closed Ha-Meem Sportswear and payment of rightful outstanding wages and other benefits to the workers.
The leaders under the banner of National Garment Workers Federation (NGWF) placed their demands at a press conference at the city's Shahid Asad Auditorium. President of the NGWF Amirul Haque Amin read out a written speech at the press meet.
Their demands also include stopping physical torture on the women workers, bringing the oppressors to justice and stopping activities against trade unionism.
Following the closure of Ha-Meem Sportswear on October 13 last, about 400 workers became jobless, the leaders told the press conference.
Bangladesh Garment Workers-Employees Federation general secretary Kamrul Ahsan, National Garment Workers-Employees Federation president Delwar Hossain, Bangladesh Tailors and Sweater Workers Federation president Md Rafiq, Akota Garments Workers Federation general secretary Kamrul Hasan and workers of Ha-Meem Sportswear were present at the press conference.
