Sonamasjid Land Port CHAPAINAWABGANJ, Apr 27 (BSS): Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, MP, said Sunday Sonamasjid Land Port had been playing a vital role in the economy of the country.
The minister was exchanging views with businessmen, transport owners and workers and labourers of the port at the Panama Port Link Limited here.
He assured the labourers of the port that their wage for loading and unloading trucks would be increased from the existing wage of Tk 15.
He also assured them of a welfare fund for the land port labourers like the welfare fund of the shipping labourers.
He said during the reign of BNP, 9 of the 12 ports of the country were inoperative. The present government activated all the ports and also launched eight new ports.
The opinion-exchanging meeting was held with lawmaker of Chapainawabganj-1 constituency and leader of the Kansat Electricity Movement Golam Rabbani in the chair.
Among others, lawmaker of Chapainawabganj-2 constituency Golam Mostofa Biswas, Deputy Commissioner of Chapainawabganj Sardar Sarafat Ali, Chairman of Land Port Authority Moyjuddin Ahmed and General Secretary of Bangladesh Shramik Federation Osman Ali spoke on the occasion.
Before the meeting, the minister inaugurated the newly -constructed first floor of the security barrack and an under -construction first floor of an administrative building on the premises of the Panama Port Link Limited.
