Laws needed to combat cyber war: Inu

Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu Thursday said Bangladesh needs to enact a set of cyber security laws to fight off ICT related crimes.
The minister made the comments while inaugurating a three-day-long 15th laptop fair at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) in the capital.
The minister said it has become a "big challenge" for the government to protect the internet users including women and children from the criminals and hackers.
Mr Inu also underscored the need for educating people particularly school students about ICT to help them seize the digital opportunity it offers.
He mentioned numerous government initiatives including incentives for the technology sector.
"Besides, the government has planned to distribute 22,000 laptop computers among the schools across the country," he said adding that they are hopeful of handing over these devices within this year.
Everest triumphant Musa Ibrahim said the government must take necessary steps to utilise the opportunities of technologies which has been emerged as the most influential tools for development.
Mr Fattah said they participate in the event not only to sell products, but also to help create ICT awareness among the visitors.
Some 50 stalls of various renowned laptop brands including Dell, Accer and Asus and HP are showcasing their products at the fair venue, where the vendors selling their products with lucrative discount.
 "We've got remarkable response from the visitors today," Rezaul Karim Tuhin, a senior manager of the flagship outlets of Apple, BENQ and Toshiba, said adding that they are hopeful of getting more response in the coming days.
 Nazmus Sayed, a salesman at the Dell's outlet, said the company is offering discount ranging from 10 to 50 per cent in their products. He said they landed 30 models of laptops at the exhibition.
Last year, around 5,000 laptops were sold, but the organisers are expecting sales to double this year.
The fair venue will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00 PM every day.  
Chairman of Global Brands Abdul Fattah, Accer's representative Salman Ali Khan, Dell Country Manager Mohammad Atiqur Rahman, among others, were present at the inaugural function.
