A three-day expo, styled 'Leathertech Bangladesh 2022', will begin tomorrow (Wednesday), aiming to give an impetus to the country's leather, leathergoods and allied sectors.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi is expected to inaugurate the eighth edition of expo at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) in the city.
ASK Trade and Exhibitions, the organiser of the event, made the announcement at a press conference at a city hotel on Monday noon, said a statement.
Leathergoods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) President Syed Nasim Manzur, and ASK Trade and Exhibitions Director Nanda Gopal K, among others, attended the conference.
They said the commerce ministry has aimed at increasing export earnings from the leather sector to over $10 billion by 2030 from existing $1.0 billion.
The international event will help the country reach the target by promoting the sector and creating a greater matchmaking platform for the sector, they observed.
According to the organisers, the LFMEAB is extending main support to the fair, co-supported by Bangladesh Finished Leather, Leathergoods and Footwear Exporters' Association; Bangladesh Tanners Association; and Bangladesh Paduka Prostutkarak Samity.
Around 200 entities from 10 countries will join the expo to showcase leather, leathergoods, allied machinery, components, chemicals and accessories.
The fair will remain open for the visitors between 11.00am and 7.00pm daily without any entry fee.
