Low-cost migration to Malaysia soon

FE REPORT | November 13, 2019 00:00:00

Bangladesh will send workers to Malaysia with a low migration cost, said expatriates' welfare and overseas employment minister Imran Ahmed on Tuesday.

The Southeast Asian country is expected to start hiring manpower from here soon, he added.

Mr Ahmed was addressing a press conference on the outcome of a bilateral meeting with his Malaysian counterpart at Probashi Kalyan Bhaban in Dhaka.

However, a bilateral meeting was held in Kuala Lumpur on November 06 on manpower recruitment from Bangladesh.

Mr Ahmed and Malaysian human resources minister M Kulasegaran represented their respective countries.

The next joint working group meet will be held on November 24-25 in Dhaka.

Soon afterwards, Malaysian will reopen the market, according to Mr Ahmed.

He said both nations have agreed on a single medical test of workers before departure from Bangladesh.

Replying to a query, the minister said he did not know anything about any syndication in the process of migration to Malaysia.

They will make a database of overseas job seekers for Malaysian market with a view to ensuring transparency in the recruitment process.

Expatriates' welfare ministry secretary Salim Reza and additional secretary Dr Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, among others, were present at the briefing.
