The leading Malaysian hospitals are eyeing to get an increased number of Bangladeshi patients in the upcoming years.

Representatives of some of the hospitals, which participated in the day-long Malaysian Healthcare Expo at a city hotel Sunday, expressed the hope, saying that their quality and cost-effective services attract many people from here.

GD Assist, a subsidiary of Green Delta Insurance Company Limited (GDIC), organised the expo.

Six hospitals and institutes took part in the expo. They are Prince Court Medical Center, Ramsay Sime Darby, KPJ Healthcare, Institut Jantung Negara (IJN), MHTC, Pantai & Gleneagles Hospitals. At the expo, GDIC also launched a health insurance product - GD Health.

GDIC in partnership with Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC), a government agency, is promoting Malaysian healthcare in Bangladesh.

Accordingly, GD Assist has teamed up with some leading Malaysian hospitals to provide their healthcare services to local people.

Farzana Chowdhury, managing director (MD) and chief executive officer (CEO) of GDIC and director of GD Assist, Nasir A Choudhury, advisor and founder MD of GDIC and chairman of GD Assist, and Dolly Lim, senior manager in-charge of MHTC, inaugurated the expo.

BRAC Bank too had a stall at the expo, from which it offered money payment services for medical travel and treatment-related expenses.

In 2013, a total of 770,134 people from different countries traveled Malaysia and received healthcare services. Of them, around 12,000 were from Bangladesh.

Malaysian Healthcare is ranked 3rd by HSBC among the best medical travel destinations in the world.

Malaysia witnessed 15 per cent growth in foreign patients for its healthcare services in 2013, comparing to that of 2012, Shobena Singam, manager of Public Relations and Call Center of MHTC, told the FE at the expo.
