A meeting of about 20 mid- to high-ranking government officials, top managers, and business leaders from 14 countries, including Bangladesh, will be held in Tokyo today (Monday) to discuss energy-efficient technologies, reports UNB.
The participants representing countries from across the Asia-Pacific region will share issues on Japan's energy-efficient technologies and examine their applicability in the participating countries.
Managing Director of National Tubes under BSEC Dr M Amirul Momin will represent Bangladesh in the event which will continue until January 30, said an official.
Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) in cooperation with Japan Productivity Centre and supported by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry are going to host the event titled 'Multi-country Observational Study Mission on Energy Efficiency.
Energy is a major cost component for organisations in all sectors of the economy. Industries, commercial establishments, large building complexes, and public utilities can accrue substantial savings in energy bills by adopting energy efficient techniques, systems, and technologies in their plants, processes, and facilities, according to the APO.
The major sources of energy are still fossil fuels, mainly coal and oil, which cause emissions of greenhouse gases resulting in long-term environmental problems like global warming and climate change, which are against the principles of sustainable development. Experts from Germany, India, and Japan will lead discussions on Japan's energy-efficiency promotion schemes and policies, best practices, and technologies that contribute to a sustainable society.
