Menon urges Biman to attract foreign tourists

A three-day international tourism fair began Thursday in the city to help draw local and foreign tourists into the country.
A total of 50 tourism operators including local airliners are participating at the 'Dhaka Travel Mart 2015', being held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, where participating firms are offering lucrative packages to attract potential tourists.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon inaugurated the fair as the chief guest.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Khurshed Alam Chowdhury, Managing Director and CEO of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines Ltd Kyle Haywood, Chief Editor of the Bangladesh Monitor Raquib Siddiqui, among others, addressed the inaugural session.
The minister placed importance on launching massive campaign to make local and overseas travelers aware of the country's potential tourist spots.
"We've some historical places, which could be potential destinations for the visitors, provided we can popularise those to visitors," the minister said.
He said the government has declared 2016 to be Tourism Year, considering the importance of the industry.
The minister called upon the national flag carrier Biman to introduce lucrative packages to attract visitors in the country.
"It will help the national airlines turn profits," he said.
The fair will remain open from 10:00am to 8:00 pm every day for visitors, who can enter the fair at Tk 25.
