Mercantile Bank marks 25th anniversary

Mercantile Bank PLC celebrated its 25th anniversary at its head office in the city on Sunday. Chairman of the bank Morshed Alam, MP inaugurated the event by cutting a cake while Managing Director of the bank Md Quamrul Islam Chowdhury delivered the welcome address.

Akram Hossain (Humayun) and Md. Abdul Hannan, Vice Chairmen; M. A. Khan Belal, Chairman, Executive Committee; Md. Anwarul Haq, Chairman, Risk Management Committee; A.S.M. Feroz Alam, Chairman, Mercantile Bank Securities Ltd.; M. Amanullah, Chairman, Mercantile Exchange House (UK) Limited, Mosharref Hossain and Mohammad Abdul Awal, Directors; Jalal Hossain Khan, shareholder; and Mati Ul Hasan, AMD; were also present.

At the event, Mastercard handed over the principal licence to Mercantile Bank PLC. Syed Mohammad Kamal, Country Manager of Mastercard, handed over the licence to Morshed Alam, MP, Chairman of the bank. Zakia Sultana, Director of Mastercard, was also present on the occasion. The customers of Mercantile Bank will enjoy all the facilities of Mastercard very soon.

On the eve of the 25th anniversary, all the divisions of the head office got decorated and cake-cutting ceremony was also held in a festive manner. At same time, all the bank branches and sub-branches across the country cut cakes and entertained the customers with sweets and snacks.

Mentioning the bank's progress in all variables, its Chairman Morshed Alam said Mercantile Bank has been established as a sustainable, reliable and customer-friendly bank through its tremendous efforts over 25 years.

He urged all the officials and employees to provide techno-based and customer-friendly banking services to ensure corporate governance in the coming days.

Md. Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, Managing Director of the bank, said that recovering classified loans will be the first priority of the bank in this fiscal year.

Agriculture and SME sector will also be given priority in terms of new loans and new Agent Banking outlets and sub-branches will be opened across the country to ensure access of the banking services for the unbanked people, he added.

Moreover, digital banking services will be easier and smart with the introduction of more innovative products in the coming days, the MD said.
