MetLife expands digital access with 'One by MetLife' app

FE REPORT | February 18, 2025 12:00:00

MetLife Bangladesh launched ‘One by MetLife’ app at a programme at its headquarters in the capital on Monday.

Bangladesh's most-downloaded health app has evolved into a more diversified platform by expanding its services to both MetLife clients and non-clients.

This development comes as MetLife Bangladesh has broadened its digital health and financial service offerings.

For the first time in Bangladesh, the mobile app -- ‘One by MetLife’ -- remains now accessible across all three major platforms- iOS, Android, and web platforms. This expansion ensures that a wider group of people, whether using a smartphone, tablet, or computer with an internet connection, can now access essential health and financial protection services more easily than ever before.

The app was launched at a programme at its headquarters in the capital on Monday.

With over 1.3 million downloads, ‘One by MetLife’ offers 24/7 access to free telemedicine consultations, online medicine delivery, specialist doctor appointments, and various health assessments, including BMI calculation and cardio/diabetes risk evaluation. The app also features personalized health awareness tools, disease prevention resources, and financial planning solutions.

Sanjeev Kapur, chief marketing officer for MetLife Asia, said, "Bangladesh is an important market for MetLife. As digital channels transform the way people access healthcare and financial services, we are proud to make One by MetLife available to more people across Bangladesh. By leveraging the best technology, we are supporting individuals to take control of their health and financial well-being."

Given Bangladesh's growing burden of critical illnesses and chronic diseases, coupled with rising healthcare costs, access to affordable medical services remains a challenge for many. MetLife developed One by MetLife as part of its commitment to digital healthcare solutions, aiming to make a tangible impact on people's lives.

MetLife Bangladesh CEO Ala Ahmad reaffirmed the company's commitment to innovation, saying, "We are continuing our investments in technology and innovative solutions to support Bangladesh's economy and insurance sector. The One by MetLife app is a testament to our commitment to helping people live healthier and more secure lives."

MetLife Bangladesh is the leading international life insurer in the country, serving over 1.0 million customers and more than 900 corporate clients.

MetLife launched the "One by MetLife" app in January 2022 to provide digital insurance solutions. Within a few months, the app gained recognition, winning the Best Innovation Award at the Bangladesh Innovation Fest in March 2022.

By July of the same year, it introduced a diabetes-specific solution in partnership with Diabetes Asia. The app's popularity grew quickly, reaching 500,000 downloads by December 2022, just one year after launch. In March 2023, MetLife expanded its Ramadan features.

The app continued to gain momentum, winning the Mobile App of the Year award at the Insurance Asia Awards in Singapore in July 2023. By April 2024, downloads surpassed 1.0 million, marking a significant milestone. MetLife revamped the app in February 2024 to enhance user experience and introduced free health benefits like flood and heat alerts.
