The state-owned metro rail company is likely to create nearly 2,000 skilled and semi-skilled jobs for carrying out administrative, planning and operation related activities of the mass transport system.
General consultants working with the Dhaka Mass Rapid Transit Development (DMRTD) project has recently proposed an organogram for the Dhaka Mass Transit Company (DMTC) which is now under scrutiny by the subcommittee of the company's board.
Officials said Japanese consultants had proposed recruitment plan for 1,963 persons from different professional groups to be filled in phases.
They said in the five-tier administration, the managing director will top the position and work with the help of three directors for administration and finance, development and planning and operation.
The company will have a good number of general managers, deputy general managers and managers for east-west north-south directives MRTs, they added.
"DMTC will be a multidisciplinary body as skills from all disciplines of engineering and technology universities will be needed," said an official of DMTC.
He, however, refused to make comment on the needs of international and local experts for operating metro rail or mass rapid transit (MRT), the first of its kind in the country.
The officials said the salary structure for DMTC staff is yet to be proposed as the organogram is not in final stage.
Sources said the salary structure for DTMC staff will be higher than the government wage and the consultants have scrutinised salaries in this regard which state-owned other companies mainly under the ministry of power, energy and mineral resources have for its workforce.
Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which has so far been providing necessary technical and financial support to make the metro rail system successful has recommended high salary structure for the company people.
They argue that it is important to uphold the status of the company to check corruption in operating and managing the highly-subsidised transport system for the common people.
