A three-day fair styled 'MIDAS Winter SME Fair - 2024' began at the MIDAS Centre in the city on Thursday hosting youth and women entrepreneurs to encourage further employment and promote women's empowerment.
As many as 70 youth and women entrepreneurs are participating in the fair housing a vast collection of handmade garments, jewelry, cosmetics, jute and agricultural products, winter sweets, and much more.
Organisers said that the fair promises to offer a comprehensive insight into the burgeoning SME landscape of Bangladesh and showcase the potential of Bangladesh's SME sector.
Chairman of Social Development Foundation Muhammad Abdul Mazid, who was present as the guest of honour, said that the fair not only encourages women empowerment but also fosters employment.
He appreciated MIDAS for holding such encouraging event and also welcomed the rising entrepreneurship facilitated by fashion designer Bibi Russell.
General Counsel and member of Executive Committee, HSBC Bangladesh Shaulee Kamal Khan said a society cannot move forward without the active participation of women in various spheres of society.
Bibi Russell, who was also present as the guest of honour, shared her story of how she overcame the challenges during her journey to become an iconic fashion designer. She spoke about new opportunities for women entrepreneurs.
Chairman of MIDAS Zahida Ispahani, who presided over the event, said that they organise a number of such fairs every year. She also lauded the entrepreneurs, especially women entrepreneurs, for their role in the development of society.
Managing Director of MIDAS M. Khairul Bashar also addressed the programme, among others.
