Mobile internet users rebound after six-month decline


After six months of continuous decline, the number of mobile internet subscribers in the country increased by 1.17 million at the end of February.
With this new addition, the total number of mobile internet subscribers stands at 117.47 million in February, up from 116.30 million in January, according to data released by Bangladesh's telecom regulator on Sunday.
Data from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) indicates that the total number of internet subscribers reached 130.35 million, with some 117.47 million being mobile internet users and 12.88 million being broadband internet users.
During this period, mobile operators in the country have added 0.92 million new subscribers, bringing the total number of subscribers to 191.31 million.
All four mobile operators experienced subscriber growth in February, with the largest operator, Grameenphone, gaining 310,000 subscribers, followed by Robi Axiata with 70,000, Banglalink with 520,000, and Teletalk with 20,000.
The number of subscribers for each mobile operator -- Grameen Phone, Robi Axiata, Banglalink Digital Communications, and Teletalk Bangladesh -- stood at 82.58 million, 58.34 million, 43.96 million, and 6.50 million, respectively, at the end of February, as per the data.
A subscriber refers to biometric-verified subscribers/subscriptions who have engaged in any activity (voice, data, SMS, etc.) at least once in the preceding 90 days, while an internet subscriber refers to subscribers/subscriptions who have accessed the internet at least once in the preceding 90 days.
