Month-long trade fair begins in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 15: The month-long Bangladesh International Trade and Export Fair (BITEF) organised by the Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry kicked off in the port city on Saturday.

Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin inaugurated the BITEF 2018 as the chief guest.

The fair is being held on the Chittagong Port Authority's (CPA) compound on the Mariners Road at Feringee Bazaar near the Karnaphuli third bridge.

The compound on the bank of the Karnaphuli River has been rented from the port authority for holding the fair.

Inaugurating the trade and export fair, the CCC mayor said the country advanced a lot under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over the last 10 years. BITEF 2018 Convener and CMCCI director Md Aminuzzaman Bhuiyan said the first four BITEF fairs from 2014 to 2017 were held on the Abahani ground. But this time they chose the new venue for the sake of its better communications.

CPA Member (engineering) Commodore Khondakar Aktar Hossain addressed the inauguration event as the special guest with CMCCI President Khalilur Rahman in the chair.

The fair will remain open from 10 AM to 10 PM on all days with the entry fee fixed at Tk 10 a person. The fair venue on 20,000 square metres has mega pavilions, super pavilions, medium pavilions, stalls, restaurants, banks, corporate houses, insurance services and companies displaying their products and services.

It has a fool-proof security system with a temporary police camp, regular patrol by members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and police, CCTV cameras, a recording system and a kids' zone for amusement of children.
