More allocation, investment to boost tourism in CHT stressed

Speakers at a dialogue Tuesday put emphasis on increased budgetary allocation as well as investment in Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) to boost tourism in the region, reports BSS.­

Unnayan Shamannay organised the dialogue "Proposed National Budget 2015-15: CHT Perspective" at Jatiyo Press Club.

Ushaton Talukdar, MP, CHT Affairs Secretary Naba Bikram Kishore Tripura, ndc and former Secretary Nasir Uddin, among others, spoke on the occasion with former Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Ibrahim Khaled in the chair.

Ushaton Talukdar said more allocation in the national budget is needed for the backward communities in the CHT region.

He also stressed ensuring investment- friendly environment in the CHT to boost up tourism.

Referring to the government's plan about tourism in CHT, Naba Bikram Tripura said the government has been working to include the people of backward communities into the mainstream of development.

"The development partners would invest nearly $300 million in the areas for the development of local people especially for their social safety, education and health," he added.
