Chicken, fish and pulses, the major protein sources, showed a further hike in prices last week much to the discomfort of the people on low incomes.
The price of ginger also shot up again amid a crunch in supply, according to traders.
Coarse, medium and finer lentil showed a Tk 10-20 price hike per kilogram in a week.
Coarse lentil retailed at Tk 105-110 a kg, medium at Tk 115-120 and finer at Tk 140-150 on Thursday.
Hafizur Rahman, a Rayerbazar grocer, said prices of lentil and mung have risen by Tk 8.0-10 a kg at Moulvibazar wholesale point in Dhaka in the 10 days.
The price started to rise at retail level since last Sunday with the end of old stocks, he added.
Cultured pangas, tilapia, koi, ruhi and katla witnessed a big jump in the price hike by Tk 20 a kg.
Pangas sold at Tk 260-300 a kg, tilapia at Tk 250-280 and koi at Tk 280-350 at city kitchen markets.
Meanwhile, cultured ruhi was traded at Tk 400-520 a kg depending on its size, marking a further hike by Tk 40-50 a kg.
Hilsa prices remained static at its previous high as different quality of the silvery fish sold at Tk 1,200-2500 a kg, an all-time high during its peak-catching season, according to kitchen market sources.
Broiler price increased to Tk 180-200 a kg from Tk 170-190, whereas Pakistani and Sonali chicken climbed to Tk 330-360 in price, registering an 8.0-10 per cent hike.
On the other hand, the price of farm eggs remained unchanged at its previous high of Tk 160-165 a dozen, according to groceries.
Prices of ginger have zoomed up further as local variety sold at Tk 350-400 a kg and imported at Tk 280-300.
Prices of key vegetables and potato remained the same at their previous high last week. Brinjal retailed at Tk 80-100 a kg and colocasia stem at Tk 90-100.
Potato (stored cardinal/diamante varieties) was selling at a four-year high of Tk 45-55 a kg.
