MoTJ releases Tk 460m to implement 15 projects

The Ministry of Textiles and Jute (MoTJ) released Thursday Tk 460 million for implementing 15 projects during the fiscal year (FY) 2014-15, officials said.
The decision of releasing the fund was taken at a review meeting of the projects at the MoTJ with acting secretary of the ministry Farid Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury in the chair.
The government has allocated Tk 1.68 billion for implementing the projects. The MoTJ has so far completed a number of projects by spending Tk 267 million which is 58.03 per cent of the released money.
Out of the 15 projects, the department of textiles is implementing 7 projects. The projects are: upgrading Pabna Textiles Institute to Textile Engineering College at a cost of Tk 536 million, Barisal Textiles Institute to Textiles Engineering College at a cost of Tk 1.05 billion, Begumganj Textiles Institute, Noakhali to Textile College at a cost of Tk 437 million and setting up Jhenidah Textiles College at a cost of Tk 840 million, Gopalganj Textiles Engineering College at a cost of Tk 982 million and textiles institutes in Khulna, Chittagong, Rangpur and Natore and Gournadi in Barisal involving Tk 2.89 billion.
Besides, Bangladesh Handloom Board is implementing three projects and Bangladesh Silk Development Board two projects, Bangladesh Silk Research and Training Institute one, Department of Jute one and the MoTJ another project. Bangladesh Textile Mills Corporation (BTMC) is also implementing one project with its own fund.
Once those projects are completely implemented, then these will help generate employment for unemployed youths and provide a sufficient number of textile engineers to the country.
The acting secretary of the MoTJ urged the project directors to draw up proper action plans for implementing the projects.
High officials of the MoTJ were present in the meeting.
