Myanmar border trade hits over $4b in 10 months

YANGON, Feb 8 (Xinhua): Myanmar's border trade hit US$4.01 billion in the first 10 months of (April-Jan) in the 2013-14 fiscal year, according to official figures Saturday.

Myanmar's border trade is done through 14 points with four neighbouring countries, namely China, Thailand, Bangladesh and India.

Of the total, Myanmar largest border trade point "Muse" alone accounted for $3.12 billion in the same period.

Lewjie, Chin Shwe Haw and Kanbiketee stand as other trade points with China, while Tachileik, Myawady, Kaw Thaung, Myeik, Nabule, Htikhee and Mawtaung with Thailand, Sittway and Maungtaw with Bangladesh and Tamu and Reed with India.

According to official statistics, as of September 2013, Myanmar 's foreign trade totalled $15.27 billion of which the export stood at $7.43 billion while the import was $7.84 billion.
