Navy chief opens composite boat workshop

Chief of Naval Staff and Chairman of Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited (DEW Ltd) Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed inaugurated a composite boat workshop at DEW Ltd in Narayanganj on Tuesday, reports BSS.
DEW Limited Managing Director Commodore Sheikh Arif Mahmood along with high military and civil officials were present on the occasion, said an ISPR press release in Dhaka on Wedneday.
The new composite boat workshop is the country's only workshop having advanced fusion technology.
All types of composite or light boats can be produced in the workshop that will also be able to do maintenance work and repair of such boats, the release said.
It said generally high-speed boats are produced from composite materials which are used by Navy, coastguard and different organisations to patrol or prevent smugglings of different things including drugs.
Earlier, Bangladesh used to take cooperation from foreign institutions to produce such boats but it will be possible to produce advanced boats inside the country which will save a lot of foreign currency, it added.
Later, the navy chief inaugurated a newly-constructed five-storied building of Narayanganj DEW High School.
