NBR member forced to retire

The government has sent a member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Begum Jahanra Siddiqui, on forced retirement.

Ms Siddiqui, member (VAT audit and intelligence), was scheduled to go on retirement in December next.  

The Internal Resources Division (IRD) issued a circular Wednesday in this regard.

In the circular, the IRD said the government felt the necessity to send Ms Siddiqui on retirement 'in public interest'.  It also said Ms Siddiqui has completed 25 years in her job.

The government applied section 9(2) of the Public Servants (Retirement) Act, 1974 to force her to retire.

The section provides that the government could send any public servant on retirement or he/she could go on retirement if he/she completes service age of 25 years.

She will be entitled to all retirement benefits from the government.
