The Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Muneem on Thursday said that a special operation would be conducted to find landlords and flat owners who have not filed income tax returns.

He said this in the pre-budget discussion held at the NBR office on Thursday with the E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (E-CAB), reports UNB.

The E-CAB proposed to abolish the requirement to collect proof of income tax return submission of the landlords at the event. E-CAB representatives Shaheen Hasan and Jahangir Alam Shovan were present in the pre-budget discussion.

E-CAB leaders said that they give notices to landlords for this., but only 30 percent submitted proof of return deposit. As a result, they had to pay 30 percent tax on the rental expenses, they said.

In response to such a proposal, the NBR chairman said that the owners of houses and flats in Dhaka and Chattogram must file tax returns.

"The NBR will see what the income is, and how much tax they have to pay. They have to submit returns," said the NBR Chairman.
