NCT sets container handling record

CHATTOGRAM, June 02: The New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of the Chittagong Port, the prime seaport of the country, achieved its highest-ever monthly container handling volume in May, underscoring improved operational efficiency and growing trade activities.
According to officials of the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA), the terminal handled a record 126,496 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) during the month, registering an average daily processing rate of 4,081 TEUs.
Of the total volume, import containers accounted for 59,851 TEUs, while export containers stood at 66,645 TEUs.
The container handling volume in May surpassed the terminal's previous monthly record of 125,533 TEUs set in October 2025 by 963 TEUs.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to extend the contract of Chittagong Dry Dock Limited (CDDL) to operate the NCT for another six months or until a new operator is appointed.
CDDL, managed by the Bangladesh Navy, took over the operation of the terminal on July 7, 2025, and will continue managing the facility until further order.
