A visiting business delegation from Nepal on Monday expressed their interest to export yarn to Bangladesh, taking advantage of the geographical proximity between the two neighbouring countries.
The team, led by acting Nepalese ambassador to Bangladesh Dhan Bahadur Oli, showed their willingness at a meeting with local knitwear manufacturers at the Dhaka office of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA).
BKMEA First Vice President Mansoor Ahmed chaired the meeting, attended by BKMEA Second Vice President Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, Director Mostafa Jamal Pasha and Nepal Yarn Producers Association Chairman Pawan Kumar Golyan, said a statement.
The delegation said they manufacture various types of yarns such as polyester and viscose, and export to the countries like Turkey, India and the United Kingdom (UK). They said the suitable geographic location of Bangladesh and Nepal would facilitate yarn trading at less time and at an affordable cost.
Bangladeshi businesses could import yarn from Nepal at a competitive price than two other neighbouring countries like India and Pakistan, they said. However, the delegation identified customs-related export complexities at Banglabandha land port and sought BKMEA's support to solve the problems through discussion with the Bangladeshi authorities.
Assuring solution to the complexities, the BKMEA leaders said the yarn import from the Himalayan country would help Bangladesh increase its apparel production and export volume.
