In order to protect Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) of local and international business organizations of Bangladesh against unauthorized import and export which leads to violation of IPR, the National Board of Revenue has legislated Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement (Import and Export) Rules, 2019, says a statement.
The Right Holder/Licensee of the intellectual property of a product under the said Rules has the right to apply for registration before Customs authority towards preventing the importation or export of goods for commercial purposes by improperly infringing the intellectual property of the importer or exporter as a trademark, patent, design, copyright or geographical indicator.
Following this, when Nestlé Bangladesh Limited applied for registration with ICD Kamalapur Customs Authority, the application was verified and approved.
This is the first registration under the Intellectual Property Enforcement (Import and Export) Rules, 2019.
ICD Kamalapur Customs Authority's Commissioner Mobara Khanam, Additional Commissioner Khandakar Nazmul Haque, Joint Commissioner Sifat A Maryam and Nestlé Bangladesh Limited's Director Legal & Tax and Company Secretary Debabrata Roy Chowdhury, Legal and Compliance Manager Foysol Ahamed and Barrister ABM Hamidul Mishbah, a lawyer of Nestlé Bangladesh Limited and founder of Bangladesh Intellectual Property Forum, were present at the certificate of recordation giving ceremony recently.
