In his inaugural statement, the newly appointed agriculture minister, Md Abdus Shahid, emphasised the utmost priority of increasing crop production and effectively controlling price manipulation in the local market.

He affirmed his commitment to undertaking all necessary measures for the betterment of farmers.

The minister articulated these key points during a discussion with the ministry and its affiliated officials held in the conference room of the ministry on Sunday morning, following his assumption of the agriculture minister's role, according to a press release.

Identifying production as the foremost challenge in agriculture, the minister underscored its critical role in market capture, price control, and the smooth functioning of the demand and supply chain.

He pledged to harness all available opportunities to boost crop production, aligning with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's directive to bring every piece of cultivable land into active use.

Addressing the issue of syndicates, the minister acknowledged their prevalence and asserted the need to dismantle them.

He stressed that forceful measures wouldn't be employed, opting instead for strategic actions to effectively control syndicates and gradually weaken their influence.

Highlighting the farmer-friendly stance of the current government, the minister expressed the commitment to do everything within the government's power to foster the continued growth of farmers and the agricultural sector.

Acknowledging the significance and vast scope of the agriculture ministry, the minister encouraged collective efforts from officials, employees, and entrepreneurs.

He emphasised the potential strength that lies in collaborative work and its ability to yield positive outcomes, providing resilience in the face of challenges within the agriculture sector.

The minister directed the ministry and other officials from aligned institutes to work diligently and devotedly towards the shared goal of increasing crop production.

The exchange meeting, chaired by Agriculture Secretary Wahida Akter, saw the participation of officials at various levels within the ministry and heads of 18 organisations affiliated with the ministry.
