Brazilian envoy praises progress in garment sector
CHITTAGONG, Feb 15: Brazil's Ambassador in Bangladesh Joao Tabajara De Oliveira Junior today said the diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and Brazil are "very excellent." He said that the volume of import and export of goods between the two countries is good as both the countries have many things in common. Bangladesh has made very good progress in education, technology, readymade garments and many other sectors as the country is moving towards its goal at good pace. The bilateral relations will further grow if the exchange of academic activities gets speedier. He expressed his all-out support and cooperation to expedite academic relationship among students of the two countries hoping that it would further deepen the ties between Brazil and Bangladesh. He made the remarks at a gathering of the young learners at the Southern University Bangladesh at its Mehdibag campus in the city. — Our Correspondent

Experts stress bankers' professional efficiency
RAJSHAHI, Feb 15 : Experts have asked newly-recruited bankers to show their professional efficiency in performing duties since it is essential for attaining success in the banking sector. They stressed the need for making banking activities client-friendly by ensuring transparency and accountability in providing services. The speakers were addressing the inaugural session of a six-week foundation training course for 27 newly-recruited senior officers and officers of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) at its training institute here yesterday. RAKUB Chairman Nazrul Islam addressed the session as the chief guest while its Managing Director Kazi Alamgir and General Manager Mozammel Haque spoke as the special guests with principal of the institute Ataur Rahman in the chair. The speakers highlighted the importance of the bank in agricultural development of the northwest Bangladesh and asked the officers to apply the knowledge acquired from the training in the professional field properly for boosting agricultural production in the region. As the largest development partner in the agricultural sector of the northwest Bangladesh, RAKUB plays a vital role in achieving economic emancipation and free the nation from poverty and hunger through boosting credit-flow to the potential agricultural fields. — BSS
