PM opens Biman's 3rd Dreamliner 'Gangchil' today
Gangchil, the third Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, is set to spread its wings today (Thursday) as Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the aircraft through a function. The prime minister is scheduled to open 'Gangchil' at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 11:30 am, Biman sources said. After the inauguration, 'Gangchil' will fly to Dubai in its maiden flight at 5:00 pm on the day. The third Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, the 15th aircraft of the national flag carrier, was added to the Biman's fleet on July 25. It landed at HISA directly from the USA's Seattle's Boeing Factory in the afternoon on the day. The prime minister named all the Dreamliners, the sources said. Earlier, the first Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, named as 'Akash Beena', arrived here in August last year, while the second one known as 'Hangsabalaka' arrived in December last. In 2008, Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed a US$2.1 billion agreement with Boeing to purchase 10 new aircraft.— BSS

BTRC doesn't require VAT reg: NBR
The telecom regulator does not require a VAT (value added tax) registration as per the existing law, according to the National Board of Revenue (NBR). In reply to an application for VAT registration by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), NBR said the commission does not need VAT registration as per sub-clause 2 in clause 4 of VAT Act 2012. The BRTC last month submitted an application to the Large Taxpayers' Unit (LTU) of NBR, seeking vat registration as the mobile phone operators refused to pay VAT to BTRC without VAT registration. Secretary General of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB) Brig. Gen. SM Farhad (rerd.) on Wednesday said the mobile operators still think that the BTRC should have the relevant registration for collecting VAT from the operators. "We are in discussion with the regulator regarding the matter and hope the issue will be solved," he said in a statement. According to the current Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Act 2012, it is mandatory to have a VAT registration for any supplier of service entity, which includes BTRC as well.
